Chicken pox is caused by a virus called varicella zoster. It is very contagious. It is characterized by skin rash and pus filled droplet shaped swellings all over the body. The body itches severely and the disease lasts for about 3 weeks. The period of incubation is 10 to 21 days. It can be spread through body contact, cough and sneeze droplets. It is expressed more severely in adults than kids but is not fatal. There is no specific treatment except isolation from places and managing the itching by applying lotions like calamine. The patients should be immediately isolated from places like hostel dormitories and hospital wards.
